State Superintendent Ryan Walters told Newschannel 8

State Superintendent Ryan Walters is considering a run for Governor.

During an interview with Newschannel 8’s Lauren Henry, he said he’s going to use the summer to make a decision.

“What we’re looking at is a decision for this summer,” Walters said. “Right now, I’ve been focused on getting through session and working through this school year. But look, there’s a lot we’ll be considering this summer. I have a lot of folks who are asking me to run.”

Walters said his current focus has been on the end of the legislative session and the end of the school year.

Several Republicans, including current Attorney General Gentner Drummond and former Speaker of the House Charles McCall, have already declared their intent to run in the 2026 governor’s race.
