Ponca City High School Music Students Shine at Pride of Texas Music Festival

Ponca City High School’s talented music students recently embarked on a memorable four-day trip to Dallas, Texas, where they showcased their exceptional skills at the Pride of Texas Music Festival in Plano, TX. The school’s band, choir, and orchestra each earned a superior rating. The orchestra was additionally awarded a “plus” rating – the highest honor awarded at the festival.
The trip combined musical achievement with cultural exploration and entertainment. In addition to their outstanding festival performances, students experienced a variety of enriching activities:
1. Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament: Students enjoyed a lively evening of medieval-themed entertainment and dining.
2. Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza: A visit to this historic site provided an educational glimpse into the life and legacy of President John F. Kennedy.
3. Dallas World Aquarium: Students explored exotic marine life and ecosystems from around the globe.
4. Dallas Symphony Orchestra: The group attended a world-class performance, inspiring them as young musicians.
5. Six Flags Over Texas: A day of thrilling rides and fun offered students a chance to unwind and bond with their peers.
6. AT&T Stadium Tour: Students toured the home of the Dallas Cowboys, marveling at one of the most iconic sports venues in the country.
Paula Cochran, Trent Davis, and Chad Keilman, head directors of the music programs, expressed pride in their students’ accomplishments: “Our band, choir, and orchestra worked hard to prepare for this festival, and their superior ratings are a testament to their talent and dedication. This trip was not only an opportunity to perform but also a chance to broaden their horizons and make lasting memories.”
