Cowgirls Beat Idaho State with Strong Second Half

The second-half trend continues for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.

Just one game after trailing Tulsa by 8 at halftime, OSU led Idaho State by just 6 going into the intermission.

For the second straight game, the halftime adjustments worked perfectly as the Cowgirls won 70-52 to stay unbeaten early in the year.

Coach Jim Littell said though he is pleased with how well his team has played in the second halves this year, the flip side of the coin is that it hasn’t played well in the first half.

“I think that’s a nice way of just saying we’ve been really bad in the first half,” Littell said. “That’s the honest truth, we’ve got to play for 40 minutes and we’ve got to have good first quarters and good second quarters.”

The Cowgirls scored 47 in the second half against TU and 40 against ISU.

Junior college transfer Natasha Mack led the Cowgirls in scoring with 19 points and she added 10 boards for her third double-double in four games. Mack said she has been told to be more aggressive.

“Honestly I just think I’m working harder when I get the ball,” Mack said. “I’m told to go to work because I’m a selfless player, I like to pass it and look for other people.

“I just have to continue to go hard rebounding. Every rebound is mine.”

Junior Vivian Gray helped Mack in the scoring department with 17. Gray struggled shooting from the floor but was able to get to the line 10 times where she was perfect.

Freshman Lauren Fields also continued her solid start to the season, for she had 13 points. Fields also added 5 assists and 4 steals with no turnovers. She said she thinks the game is starting to slow down for her.

“I’m getting more comfortable with the game,” Fields said. “Coach Littell puts an emphasis in practice on not turning over the ball so I think that’s helped as well.”
