Bedlam Soccer Highlights Big 12 Slate

Bedlam doesn’t need any extras to help hype it up.

Although that’s the case, Friday night’s soccer match between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma have plenty of storylines that help build the importance of the rivalry even greater than normal.

The Cowgirls lead the Big 12 and are on a five-match winning streak. With two more matches to go, they control their own destiny to clinch a regular season conference title.

Teams like Texas, Texas Tech and TCU are keeping the pressure on the Cowgirls to keep winning and the Sooners would undoubtedly like nothing more than to keep their bitter rivals from winning a championship.

Oklahoma has its own reasons to play well, though. The Sooners find themselves right on the bubble of the NCAA tournament conversation despite a strong non-conference showing and a win on the road against a top-13 opponent would likely secure OU a trip to the postseason.

The match also provides a chance for some of the brightest stars in the Big 12 to take the field with OU’s Kaylee Dao and OSU’s Grace Yochum tied atop the goalscoring chart in conference play and the pair are also the top-two in points.

The Cowgirls also have the league-leader in assists from freshman Olyvia Dowell, who is tied with Kansas’ Katie McClure with 4 in conference play. Sooner Megan Reilly and Cowgirl Jaci Jones are tied for third in the conference in assists with 3 each.

This conference edition of Bedlam set to kick of at 7PM Friday night at Neal Patterson Stadium.
