Jimmie Curlee Daniel of Ponca City, OK passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2019. He was 82 years of age. Jimmie was born October 29, 1936 in Ponca City, OK to Pink and Trudie Daniel.
A time of Visitation will be held for Jimmie on Saturday, October 5th, from 10am to 8pm and on Sunday, October 6th, from 1pm to 8pm at Grace Memorial Chapel, 2016 N 14th St, Ponca City, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, October 7, 2019, at Albright Methodist Church, 128 S Palm St, Ponca City, Oklahoma. Pastor Tracy Ivy will be officiating.
Jimmie grew up east of Newkirk and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1955. He then served in the army from 1955 to 1957 in which he served in the Korean War. Jimmie married the love of his life, Mary Jane Myers in 1958. In 1967, Jimmie graduated from the 22nd Highway Patrol Academy badge #389 and started his career with the Okemah Division in Oklahoma. In 1970, he was awarded the very first trooper of the year award in Oklahoma for saving two young girls and their parents. In 1976, he transferred to the Newkirk Division. In 1979, he transferred to the Kaw Lake Patrol Division. Jimmie retired from serving Oklahoma citizens in 1987.
Jimmie stayed busy with wood working, refinishing antique furniture, leather work, carving, fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his kids and grandchildren which came to know him as Pappy. Jimmie was known for the unique carvings that he made for his family and friends which included his Sunday School Group.
Survivors included: wife of the home, Carol Mann of Ponca City; sister: Loye Faye and Frank Randol; three daughters: Tina and Craig Newlin of Stillwater, OK; Tamela and Bruce Wooderson of Blackwell, OK; and Tonya and Jim Johnston of Stillwater, OK and two sons: Dan and Karol Daniel of Ponca City, OK; Dekle and Durita Daniel of Ponca City, OK; 13 grandchildren Lauren Newlin, Hayden Newlin, Guy and Hannah Wooderson, Kylie Wooderson, Kaitlyn Wooderson, Grady and Kayla Wooderson, Derek Daniel, Ashley Daniel, Kisha Oakes, Dustin and Molly Johnston, Jason and Buffy Johnston, Charley Daniel, Jacob and Jennifer Daniel; nine great grandchildren: Millie, Asher, Joseph, Rose, Brooklyn, Audrey, Mabel, Caden, Emmy. He also had two step-kids: Todd and Paula Mann of Anchorage, AK and Lisa and Jim Kuecker of Arkansas City, KS and four step-grandchildren: Candace Kuecker, Katelyn Kuecker, Audra and Tom Janz and Levi Mann.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and late wife Mary Jane Daniel; two brothers: Tom Daniel; Cecil Daniel; and one sister: Joye Mae Daniel
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to Oklahoma State Troopers Association (OSTA) Foundation, P.O. Box 1059, Sallisaw, OK 74955. The funds are used for immediate relief for Troopers and their families, college scholarships for Troopers children, Make a Wish, Cadet Lawman, etc. Gifts are tax deductible.
