Vonnie “Jean” Stewart, age 78, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2019 at her home.
Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 11am-8pm Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-7pm. Burial will then follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Jean was born on October 16, 1940 to Joseph S. Booth and Mary H. Aldridge Booth in Commerce, OK. She was raised in Commerce; graduating from high school there in 1959. After high school, she attended Wichita Business College. While in college, Jean worked at the Dockum drug store. After receiving her accounting certificate from the Business College, Jean began working at First National Bank. A mutual friend introduced her to Darrel Stewart, who became her husband on August 29, 1964 in Wichita. After they were married, Jean and Darrel traveled the country to various communities where Darrel served as a contract machinist. In each community, Jean would find employment in the finance sector, working at numerous banks. Eventually, the family settled in Tulsa where her husband purchased a machine shop. City Service Oil Company hired Jean as an accountant with her retiring in 1993 as a supervisor over the financial division. In 2000, Jean and Darrel moved to Ponca City to be closer to their family. They were blessed to find and join Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, where she flourished in the faith she had held dear since her commitment to the Lord as a 9 year old. People raved about Jean’s cooking and her skills at the sewing machine allowed her to make clothing for herself that looked like it came off the rack. Jean’s talents were also on display with her paintings of still life and landscapes. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children: Daryl Gene Stewart and wife Karen of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Donna F. Rogan and husband Mike of Helena, MT, Marlyn Sue Winters Bellina of Haysville, KS, Steven W. Stewart of Wichita, KS, Johnnie D. Stewart of Derby, KS, and Pamela A. Johnson and husband Terry of Wichita, KS., 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Dorothy Knight, Sylvia Dubbert, Earl Booth, Merl “Dean” Booth, Margie Arnold, Edith Edens, Joseph Booth, Melvin Booth, Robert Booth, and Bonnie Tune.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, 2230 N. Union, Ponca City, OK 74601.
