This is the June 24th OkState Sports Report.

Travelers Championship

The Travelers Championship finished up this weekend and the terrific run Chez Reavie is on continued with a dominating 17-under performance to help him lift the trophy at the TPC River Highlands.

This off the back of his tie for third at the US Open just last week at Pebble Beach.

As for Cowboys in the field – Hunter Mahan, Morgan Hoffman and Peter Uihlein all missed the cut and did not play the weekend.

That left Kevin Tway and the two rookies, Viktor Hovland and Matthew Wolff.

Wolff struggled the most out of the trio. He carded a four-over 74 in the third round, lowering his score to two over. That dropped him out of the top-70 and he finished with a “made cut, did not finish” designation. His score did not allow him to play the final round, but he still earned part of the prize purse.

Hovland played better on Saturday, but again was inconsistent on Sunday. Over the course of the tournament, Hovy made 17 birdies, which had him at four under through Saturday. However on his front nine on Sunday, he had a bogey and a double. His back nine was even par and he finished at one under in a tie for 54th.

The prize money for both Hovland and Wolff came in at less than $17,000.

Where the two rookies struggled, Tway shined on the weekend. The PGA Tour vet was seven under in his final two rounds, which was among the best weekend scores in the field.

With four more birdies on Sunday, he finished the two-day stretch with eight birdies and an eagle. His top-five finish means he is projected to move up to 31st in the FexEx Cup standings, now ahead of Jason Day.

Cowgirl Golf

In LPGA action, former Cowgirl Pernilla Lindberg played well Thursday and Friday of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship to make the weekend at one under, but she found trouble Saturday and Sunday to finish seven over in a tie for 60th.

If you missed the 5 pm report on Friday, you may have missed the news that Greg Robertson has hired Maddi Swaney as his assistant coach for the Cowgirl golf program.

She was the 2016 WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year.

Cowgirl Equestrian & Tennis

Equestrian also hired a new assistant coach. Larry Sanchez announced the hire of Olivia Dorey on Friday afternoon as the new hunt seat assistant. Dorey joins OSU’s staff after attending Georgia, where she was an All-SEC performer.

And finally, Cowgirl tennis’ Sofia Blanco collected one last award as an OSU athlete. She was named an academic All-American for the second straight year.
