Relay for Life teams are stirring up their best chili

Relay for Life teams are stirring up their best chili recipes.

The chili cookoff Tuesday night is kicking off the Relay for Life season.

Relay for Life is a national charity that raises money for the American Cancer Society.

Tina Stracener, cancer survivor and Ponca City Relay for Life retention chair said you have a chance to taste the chili.

“If you want to come and taste it’s $5 for a sample, which also gives you a bowl of chili," Stracener said."Then what we do ask is for donations per chili, because we have the crowd favorite and whoever raises the most money gets an award.”

Children between 5 to 12 are only $2.

There will also be official judges.

The judges lined up right now are Mayor Nicholson, Rich Cantillion, Chamber president and Chef Jeff Denton.

The teams are gearing up for the relay on May 9.

Stracener said it’s not too late to register a team.

“We kind of leave that open." Stracener said. "We encourage around 8 to 10. We definitely take teams less than that or definitely more than that, but that’s kind of what we encourage.”

To register call Tina at 765-4441 or 763-3951.

The chili cookoff begins at 6 and is at the American Legion.
