High school bowling teams starting

The Ponca City Bowling Association, in cooperation with Oklahoma High School Bowling Program, is seeking high school students for the Area High School Bowling Teams.
For the past several years, Newkirk High School, Tonkawa High School, Ponca City High School, and Frontier High School have fielded both boys and girls teams. These teams competed against others high school teams at the regional and state level. At the region level, Ponca City teams will compete against teams from Bartlesville, Stillwater, and other high schools in the surrounding area.
Although the boys team has advanced to the State Finals in the past, it was the girls team that brought the champion trophy to Ponca City during the 2010-2011 season.
Team recruitment and practice sessions are at Ponca Bowl on Tuesday and Fridays each week starting Oct 2, 2018. Start time is 3:30 pm. Both the boys team and girls team have coaches willing to assist in developing the skills needed to compete as a bowler. Regardless of experience in bowling, students are encouraged to try out for the team.
Try outs and the program are conducted at no cost to schools or students. Funding is provided by participating bowling centers, bowling associations and sponsors from within the community. The program has many great sponsors statewide. The members are supported by the local Bowling Association, Ponca Bowl, and a number of businesses providing funds to assist in the purchase of team shirts and team travel.
During competition rounds the teams will use bowlers, but the roster can be seven to eight members. Additionally, when teams compete, they use the baker format for scoring the game. Each team member is responsible for two frames in each game. Very similar to baseball, each player takes a turn during the game.
The High School Bowling Program has a strict code of ethics and grade eligibility requirements. Program participants are expected to maintain acceptable grades and will have to present report cards to the Conference Coordinator in November and January.
