Burn The Calories Before You Eat The Calories

5K runs the morning of Thanksgiving have recently become a new trend.

Ponca City joined the club last year with the Daddy Long Legs run.

Terri Sherbon, recreation superintendent said the course was certified five years ago.

“We are working on certifying a new course for next year, which will make it bigger and better,but for this year we have to use this course,” Sherbon said.

The run will be around the downtown area.

Registration begins at the Chamber of Commerce at 8:15 and the run will begin at 9.

The $25 fee will only cover the run, the deadline for shirts was Nov.19 .

Walkers are invited as well and this a rain or shine event, no refunds.

Alot of these runs claim Thanksgiving related names such as, Turkey Trot or Burn The Bird, but Ponca City decided to make its name personal.

Lew Wentz was a prominent figure in Ponca City and one of the many things he did was make sure all the community children had christmas gifts.

Instead of the kids saying Mr. Wentz brought them gifts they called him by his nickname "Daddy Long Legs."

Wentz donated a lot of money to Ponca City and made sure all children were cared for.
