Ponca City Is Taking Steps To Get Funding For New Apartments

Ponca City Now - November 26, 2013 6:30 am

A topic discussed at the city commissioner meeting last night was zoning for new apartments.

The zoning was approved unanimously.

Now the developers head to the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency in January to ask for funding.

Chris Henderson, development services director said whether we receive funding or not is up in the air, but new housing is a need in Ponca City.

“There is no question that we need more affordable housing units," Henderson said. "In the past 10 years the city has demolished hundreds of old houses, dilapidated houses and we need to replace those houses, and these tax credits projects offer us a chance to do that.”

If the developers don’t receive funding in January they will fine tune the proposal and try again in the spring.

If funding is approved the apartments will go directly across the street from the YMCA at Grand and Waverly.

They will be standard, all-electric apartments with a clubhouse and community storm shelter.
