Ponca City resident involved in Kay County vehicle accident

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a personal injury collision occurred about 12:21 p.m. Saturday in the 6400 block of Lake Road, about 2.4 miles east of Ponca City, OK in Kay County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Kenneth South, 51, of Ponca City, OK. South was transported by Ponca City EMS to Alliance Health, Ponca City Hospital where he was admitted for observation for a medical condition not related to the accident.

A passenger in South’s vehicle, a juvenile male, 17, also of Ponca City, OK was transported by Ponca City EMS to Alliance Health, Ponca City Hospital where he was treated and released.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated that South’s vehicle was eastbound on Lake Road, departed the roadway left and impacted a rock embankment, re-entered the roadway in a broad slide and departed the roadway right, rolled ¾ times and came to rest on its passenger side. The driver was pinned for approximately 55 minutes before being freed by Ponca City Fire Department. The passenger was pinned for approximately 30 minutes before being freed by Ponca City Fire Department. Seatbelts were equipped and in use by both occupants. The report attributes the cause of the collision to the medical condition of the driver.
