2 Ponca City residents injured in Kay County vehicle accident

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a personal injury collision occurred about 9:11 p.m. Saturday on North Avenue at U Street, about 2 miles west and 1 mile south of Ponca City, Ok in Kay County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 1987 Chevrolet pickup driven by a juvenile whose name has been withheld, 16, of Ponca City, OK. This juvenile was transported by ambulance to Alliance Health Hospital in Ponca City in critical condition with head and trunk internal injuries.

A juvenile passenger in the vehicle, 16, also of Ponca City was transported by ambulance to Alliance Health Hospital in Ponca City in stable condition with trunk internal and leg injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated that the vehicle was northbound on U Street, departed the roadway left, and rolled approximately 2 times. The driver was ejected apporximately 73 feet from the resting point of the vehicle. Seatbelts were equipped, but only in use by the passenger. Airbags were equipped, but did not deploy. The report notes that the driver’s condition was apparently normal and lists the cause of the collision as unreasonable and improper speed on the roadway. The report notes that this occurred on a 2 lane dirt road and also notes misty weather conditions.
