National Preparedness Month

Ponca City Now - September 10, 2013 9:57 am

The American Red Cross has named September National Preparedness month.

Wendy Stobbe with the American Red Cross said this area needs to be prepared for tornadoes, a situation with the refinery and snow storms.

“I have heard from the Farmers almanac we are suppose to have a particularly nasty winter," Stobbe said. So, definitely good thinking about winters coming, what should I have if we were to lose electricity because than you are to sustain yourself in your home.”

Stobbe said if the refinery were to have an issue the best option is to stay in your home with windows and doors sealed tight.

So, it is safe to always have what the Red Cross calls a three day supply.

And as for tornadoes, have a go-kit ready.

Stobbe suggested having pet records, medicine, baby supplies and a crank radio in the kit.
