A 72-year-old Shidler man died Wednesday in a collision which occurred about 11:14 a.m. on State Highway 18, about three miles south of Fairfax in Osage County.

Charles Cordwell Jr. was driving a 2002 GMC truck which collided with a 2012 Kenworth, driven by Justin Lowe, 28, of Stillwater.

Cordwell was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries sustained in the collision. His body was transported from the scene by Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home.

Lowe was transported by Miller EMS to Fairfax Hospital, then to a Tulsa hospital in stable condition with trunk internal, arm, and leg injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol report said Lowe’s truck was northbound on State Highway 18, when for unknown reasons the truck departed the roadway to the right, came back on roadway and struck Cordwell’s vehicle in the driver side. Cordwell was pinned for approximately 2.5 hours before being freed by Fairfax Fire Department.

The Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
