2 Sooners are finalists for softball player of year award

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) – Two Oklahoma Sooners are among 26 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award.

Lauren Chamberlain and Shelby Pendley were announced Thursday as finalists for the award.

Pendley leads OU with 19 home runs and is tied with Chamberlain for the team lead with 49 RBIs. Pendley is also 10-1 as a pitcher.

Chamberlain has 16 home runs and leads the Sooners in runs, slugging, walks and on-base percentage.

Ten finalists for the award will be named May 6. The list will be reduced to three on May 20 and the winner will be announced May 26 prior to the start of the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
