Officials said the fire was called in between 4 and 5 a.m. on Keeler Street in Ramona.

Firefighters said three people were killed and three others were hospitalized.

No names have been released, but an ATF rep confirmed the family is of Native American heritage.

Washington County Fire Chief Kary Cox said five fire departments responded to the call with 50 people fighting the flames.

Chief Cox said it took them nearly three hours to control the fire. He said the house was on a dead-end street and the nearest fire hydrant was several blocks away.

“With the temperatures this morning, a lot of difficulty with water supply, with trucks freezing, the ice on the scene so it made it pretty difficult for firefighters from the very beginning this morning,” said Cox.

Firefighters also rescued a therapy dog at the scene.
