101 Wild West Rodeo Begins Thursday-Golf Tournament is Friday and Parade Saturday in Ponca City

The 63rd Annual 101 Wild West Rodeo starts Thursday with family night. Kids 12 and under kids get in free and Danny’s BBQ Headquarters, Inc. will serve dinner at 6:00 pm with advance rodeo ticket purchase. Thursday is also “Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night”.

Friday is “First Responders Appreciation Night”. The Express Clydesdales will also make an appearance Friday. Each horse weighs nearly 2,000 pounds and stands approximately 18 to 20 hands tall. The coach they pull seats 24 and weighs 4,000 pounds.

The 101 Wild West Rodeo committee has worked to follow the traditions set by the Miller Brothers and the 101 Wild West Show. For the past 63 years the 101 Wild West Rodeo has always been small town Oklahoma proud, and this year at the Saturday night performance you have the opportunity to show hometown pride to Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt who will attend the rodeo during Military Appreciation Night.

After the Rodeo performance those who purchased a rodeo ticket can enjoy a free concert and dance each night. Thursday nights entertainment is Dax Perrier and the Outsiders, a 5 piece Alt Country band from Tulsa. Friday nights band is Red Dirt band and fan favorite, The Great Divide. Saturday it’s Tyler Booth, a country music singer-songwriter from Kentucky who signed a joint venture between Villa40 and Sony Music Nashville in 2020. The concert and dance is a family friendly event.

Adults rodeo tickets are $15 in advance and$18 at the gate. Thursday night kids 12 and under get in free. On Friday and Saturday tickets for kids ages 7 to 12 are $5 in advance and $8 at the gate, kids 6 and under get in free.

Purchase advance tickets online at Ebrite or at RCB Banks, Equity Banks, Tractor Supply and the Ponca City Chamber office at 5th and Grand.

There’s still time to register for the 101 Wild West Rodeo Golf Tournament scheduled for this Friday, June 9th, at the Ponca City Country Club. Registration is at 8:00 am and Tee off at 9:00 am. A 4-person scramble entry fee is $100 a person which includes green fees, a golf cart, lunch, and awards. Call the Country Club now to reserve your spot at 580-762-4413 or sign up the morning of the tournament.

The 101 Wild West Rodeo Parade begins at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 11th, on Grand Avenue in downtown Ponca City. This years parade marshal is Ponca City Energy, who brought home a trophy from the APPA National Lineman’s Rodeo, the first for Ponca City and for the state of Oklahoma. The 101 Wild West rodeo also recognizes Ponca City Energy for always being there when our community needs them.

Parade Escorts for this years parade are Kay County Sheriff Steve Kelly and the Ponca City Police Department.  Also in this years line-up, Senator Bill Coleman and Representative Ken Luttrell both from Ponca City, Specialty Act Ryder Kiesner, a World Champion rope slinger and gun twirler, the 101 Wild West Rodeo Clowns, Bull Fighters and Rodeo Drill Team, the Express Clydesdales, the Girls Scouts, the Boy Scouts, Ponca City Noon Lions, Ponca City Varsity, Jr. Varsity and Jr. High Cheerleaders, Miss Ponca City Princess Piper Price, Ponca City Veterans Day Committee and the replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Ponca City Masonic Lodge, Ponca City and Newkirk Fire Departments, the 101 Ranch Old Timers Association, PRCA cowboys and cowgirls, lots of horses and riders and so much more.
