Personal Injury Collision in Payne County

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a personal injury collision occurred about 2:44 p.m. Saturday on SH51 westbound about 0.3 miles west of the Stillwater city limits in Payne County, OK.

The patrol said the accident involved a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Jason Benjamin Hughes, 35, of Enid, Oklahoma. Hughes was transported by AirEvac to OU Medical Trauma in Oklahoma City in critical condition with head, arm, and trunk internal injuries.

A passenger in Hughes’ vehicle, 14, of Enid, OK was transported by AirEvac to OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City in stable condition with arm and trunk internal injuries.

The second vehicle involved was a 2013 Ford Expedition driven by Dixie Diane Torres, 45, of Cleveland, OK. Torres was transported by personal vehicle to Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater, treated and released with arm and trunk internal injuries.

A passenger in Torres’ vehicle, 9, of Cleveland, OK was transported by personal vehicle to Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater, treated and released with trunk internal injuries.

A second passenger in Torres’ vehicle, 6, of Cleveland, OK was transported by personal vehicle to Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater, treated and released with trunk external injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s investigation is still pending as to the exact circumstances of the accident. The report notes that Hughes was pinned, unable to exit the vehicle under his own power and was extracted by the Stillwater Fire Department using cutting tools and the Hurst tool. The condition of Hughes is listed as still being under investigation, while the condition of Torres is listed as apparently normal. It is unknown if the equipped seatbelts were in use in Hughes’ vehicle. Seatbelts were equipped and in use in Torres’ vehicle.
