(Delayed) Personal Injury Collision Involving Ponca City Resident in Osage County

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a personal injury collision occurred about 4:55pm Wednesday on Whizbang Road about 1.3 miles east of Burbank, OK in Osage County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 1998 Honda Civic driven by Edgar Burch, 61, of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Burch was transported by Shidler EMS to Alliance Health in Ponca City, where he was treated and released to the custody of the Trooper, then transported to Osage County Jail where he was booked. Burch was released on his own recognizance on 02/23/2017 at 1:12pm for transport by Pawhuska EMS to Pawhuska Hospital. Burch was then flown by Life flight to St. Johns Tulsa where he was admitted for head, trunk, external, and internal injuries.

Passneger James Martine, 67, of Burbank, OK refused medical treatment for a possible head injury. Second passenger Albert Miller, 66, of Oklahoma City had no injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated Burch’s vehicle was northbound on Whizbang Road, described as a two lane gravel road, when it departed the roadway to the left and struck a tree. After the initial impact, the driver reversed the vehicle back onto the roadway and continued traveling northbound for approximately another 2.1 miles before the vehicle became disabled in the roadway. Seatbelts were equipped, but none were in use. The report lists Burch’s condition as intoxicated and notes an odor of alcohol. The cause of the collision is listed as DUI.
